The New York University (NYU) Aging Research in Sleep Equity & Dementia Prevention (ARISE-DP) Program examines sleep disorders to identify whether they are a risk factor for Alzheimer’s Disease among older Black/ African Americans. ARISE-DP prioritizes community outreach and engagement, and they’ve partnered with the A. Philip Randolph Senior Center to host the Harlem Brain Health & Wellness Fair. ARISE-DP will highlight Black History Month & provide resources addressing the various health inequities that impact healthy brain aging.

Community Cleanup & Launch of Program to Combat Senior Loneliness/Isolation

Saturday, September 24, 2022: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm EST, FDR Park, 3500 Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19145

Join Lolita Jones, President & Co-founder of PHAAI, and other volunteers who will help Independence Blue Cross to launch the BlueBench Program.

The program aims to address isolation and loneliness among seniors in Philadelphia by creating an infrastructure, such as park benches, for them to meet new people and socialize more. Independence, with support from United By Blue, will celebrate the new program with the unveiling of three new blue benches during a Community Cleanup in FDR Park on September 24, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Local volunteers, businesses, nonprofits, and community groups are invited to participate in the Community Cleanup, which will be run by United By Blue. The goal is to have Community Cleanup participants work together to help remove up to 5,000 pounds of trash/litter from FDR Park. There will also be educational activities, interactive games, music, and food and beverages at the event.
